A semester abroad means more than just a change of study location - it is a leap into the unknown, a chance for personal and professional development.
One of our student employees seized the opportunity and spent the winter semester at the Universidad de Oviedo in the north of Spain. Despite initial challenges - from finding accommodation to changes in the curriculum - the stay turned out to be a formative time.
Intercultural learing
Living in an international shared flat with students from Europe and South America enabled not only linguistic, but above all cultural changes of perspective. Shared evenings, new friendships and everyday life in a foreign city made the experience particularly valuable.
Academic Insights
By participating in courses outside of the home curriculum - e.g. in areas such as explosives engineering and mining economics - gave students exciting insights into teaching content and didactic approaches that go beyond their own subject. The small course size allowed for an intensive exchange with the lecturers and exciting excursions, for example to the port of Gijón.
Broadening horizons
It was not just the subject content, but also finding your way independently in a new environment - from the language to the study organization - that made the stay a real learning experience.
His conclusion: “I can look back on an unforgettable time - both personally and professionally.”
We are grateful for the insights and are delighted that the semester abroad opened up so many new perspectives!
