Applied Computer Science is about using IT for everyday life or scientific fields. It is practice-orientated Computer Science. Computer Science is used to solve problems - even in areas outside of computer science - and improve products. We focus on robotics, artificial intelligence, automation technology and the Internet of Things.

Study details
Computer Science now characterises our entire lives: With the help of state-of-the-art IT, technical innovations have become possible that were unthinkable just a few years ago: The coffee machine brews coffee on its own at 8 a.m. and artificial intelligence optimises factory processes and navigation systems. In the Applied Computer Science degree programme, you will be involved in the development of IT systems for such technologies. You will learn how to structure and process data intelligently and how to skilfully adapt and use algorithms. Programming, software development and project management are just as much a part of the degree programme as learning about computer structures and architectures and developing automated processes.

After completing your Bachelor's degree in Applied Computer Science, you will have excellent career prospects! There are job opportunities mainly in medium-sized and large companies. However, you can also work independently. Computer scientists work in a wide variety of areas: For example, in software development, as embedded software specialists or in the field of AI.
Studying at the Velbert/ Heiligenhaus campus
Small but mighty: studying at the Velbert/ Heiligenhaus campus (CVH) is something very special. Around 400 STEM-enthusiastic students are enrolled. The study groups are small, we know each other and the lecturers can support you individually during your studies. Our building was built in 2017. The laboratories are new and well-equipped with the latest technology, which our students are also allowed to use. We attach great importance to the practical relevance of our degree programme. We are also particularly proud of our research activities. Several CVH professors are members of the NRW doctoral programme. This is why you can also do a doctorate at CVH after completing your Master's degree.
