AKIS is the abbreviation for Interdisciplinary Institute for Applied Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Ruhr.

The institute was founded to promote applied research in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Data Science along the Ruhr axis, as well as to provide impulses for the further development of the university's master's program in the field of Data Science & AI. It serves as a platform for scientific and didactic exchange among the scientists working at the university, as well as especially the Master students enrolled in this environment at the university and students at the PhD College NRW .

The focus is particularly on topics with the following application areas:

  • Sustainability, water and environment
  • Robotics and Industry 4.0
  • Autonomous driving and intelligent mobility

What makes the institute special is its interdisciplinary and applied character.
